Supply of BASF Masterseal Waterproofing for Sunset Apartments

Supply of Masterseal Waterproofing for Sunset Apartments
Waterproofing and Rising Damp Works

Client: National Housing and Construction Company Limited (NHCCL)

Consultant: National Housing and Construction Company Limited (NHCCL)

Site Location: Sunset Apartments – Kiwatule

Contract Period: 2021

Following developments of rising dampness on several apartment blocks at the Sunset Kiwatule, National Housing and Construction Company Ltd contacted us for a repair proposal and demonstration.

Following this request, TETRABUILD Services Limited carried out sample works for a trial section to National Housing at Sunset Apartments in Kiwatule. This trial involved the removal of the existing affected plaster, surface preparation, application of BASF Masterseal Waterproofing chemical, and reinstatement of plaster dosage with BASF Masterseal 501 WA waterproofing admixture. We provided a bucket of BASF Masterseal 501 (25kgs), and BASF Masterseal 501WA (25kgs) for the trial section.

We undertook the following scope of works listed below on Block K to an area of 4.5m by 0.6m (avg) i.e. 2.7 Sqm. The works involved;
1. The mortar/plaster to the defective wall sections was hacked off using hand chisels and masonry hammers.
2. The surface of the exposed block wall was then prepared to receive the waterproofing chemical by mechanical sanding using a mechanical sanding disc on a grinder.
3. The exposed block wall was later treated with BASF Masterseal 501 slurry. This was done by brush application of the waterproofing chemical slurry (powder mixed with water) and allowed to set for a few hours.
4. The treated wall was then re-plastered with BASF Masterseal 501 WA enriched mortar to restore the surfaces.

Dryzone rising damp treatment was highly recommended however, not used due to the project budget.

Following the methodology of the trial section and training to the NHCC team, TETRABUILD proceeded to supply several buckets of Masterseal 501 and Masterseal 501WA for the project repairs.

We continue to monitor and support the progress of the repairs.
